Every year the Grand Island Fire Department visits the public and private grade school age children of Grand Island.  In an effort to reach our children with the message of EDITH (Exit Drills In The Home), as the Red Cross challenged GIFD to work with them in educating our 3rd graders.

A Contest amongst the 3rd grade kids is presented and graded by the Red Cross.  Winners are given a ride on a fire engine.  The grand prize winner is raised into the sky on the platform of the ladder truck with the Mayor of the city.
