Star Party

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Library & Grand Island Parks & Recreation Department are teaming up with the Platte Valley Astronomical Observers for another “Star Party” at Camp Augustine on Saturday, May 3.

The public is invited to gaze at the sky through telescopes and other equipment provided by the PVAO. The program will start at 8 p.m. with an educational program inside the Camp Augustine Visitor's Center. Sky viewing will take place shortly after that program.

This event is free and open to the public and no registration is required. In the event of cloudy weather, this program will be canceled. Cancellation notice will be posted on the library’s website, online events calendar and Facebook by 1 p.m. on May 3 if necessary.

Camp Augustine is located at 2299 W Camp Augustine Rd, just west of South Locust Street and north of Interstate 80. Guests are asked to follow the gravel road to the end and turn left to enter the camp through the main gates. Participants are also asked to bring a flashlight or headlamp and dress for the weather. There will be no outdoor seating available, but participants may bring their own camp chairs. Participants are also encouraged to bring binoculars and download a sky tracker app for their mobile device.
