missionstatement

Police Department

"The mission of the Grand Island Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in our community by working with the public and within the framework of the United States Constitution to preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide a safe environment for all of our citizens."

Part of that mission is to achieve a continued reduction in our city's crime rate. In 2024, the Grand Island crime rate dropped by 14.3%, and we're not planning to stop there. In 2025, we hope to achieve an additional 20% reduction in overall crime. The ambitious goal comes with four main focus points. Those include leadership & culture, community engagement, strategic policing initiatives and visible patrol.

With community support, we hope to achieve a transparent improvement process that will make Grand Island a great city to live in for years to come!
